And We’re Back!
Thursday, August 10th, the Brantford Comedy Festival returns to the Polish Hall Brantford at 154 Pearl St. For the past 8 years, The Brantford Comedy Festival has been a local end-of-summer staple that has developed a devoted fan base who pack out every single show. I have been fortunate enough to be the House MC for the past 7 years. We started out at Gus & Guidos performing on the patio and then took the show indoors to the Polish Hall where there was a larger seating capacity and zero chance of being rained on during a performance!
Part of what has made the Brantford Comedy Festival such a success is our willingness to evolve every year. We always want to be growing and that growth is evident in the loyalty Brantford fans have shown to the fest. They come an hour early just to make sure they have a table, order a pile of perogies, and then I get on stage and introduce the show.
A big part of my involvement has been mostly focused on the Rising Stars competition portion of the festival. I love talking to the crowd, making newcomers feel welcome and oldcomers feel loved. A lot of moving parts go into community contribution and what we’ve created at The Brantford Comedy Festival over the years has become something very special.
Last year was the first time we introduced the $10,000 competition with the big finale being a gala event at The Sanderson Centre. This year the $10,000 competition is back and is once again being sponsored by Parkway Dentistry.
Mike Rita took home the 10k last year (pictured above). But who’s going to take it this year?

For The Love of Brenda
This year we lost a dear friend of the festival, Brenda Walker, who has been the shining star of the Brantford Comedy Festival for the past 4 years. She kept me on my toes with her witty comebacks and had a natural grace her delivery that easily made her the greatest audience member I’ve ever met. I had so much fun with Brenda and she truly made those nights in the Polish Hall truly special. It won’t be the same without her but we’re ready to enter our next chapter with the same tenacity and gumption that Brenda would bring herself on any given night.
This year we are dedicating the festival to Brenda and will leave her chair empty.
Thank you to Dean Ellis for making this wonderful photo collage.
